Organization Overview and Role

The Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association (ANFCA) is looking for a visionary and relationship-oriented Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to guide the organization through a period of significant growth and strategic progress. The CEO will report to the Board of Directors via the Executive Committee, providing leadership to further ANFCA's mission of strengthening the Friendship Centre Movement and supporting Indigenous communities throughout Alberta.

Key Responsibilities

Rooted in Indigenous values and cultural stewardship, the CEO will drive the execution of ANFCA’s 2025–2030 Strategic Priorities and Goals. This role includes close collaboration with the Board, member Friendship Centres, Elders, Youth, Knowledge Holders, governments, and community partners. The CEO’s duties encompass advocacy, partnership enhancement, promoting sustainable organizational practices, and nurturing a cooperative and accountable workplace environment. Regular travel across Alberta is expected as the position is Edmonton-based.

Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of progressive senior leadership experience, with previous roles such as CEO, Executive Director, or similar. Academic credentials include a post-secondary degree in business or public administration, Indigenous studies, social sciences, or related areas; alternative combinations of relevant education, executive experience, and Indigenous lived experience are recognized. Proven expertise in governance, community relationship building, communication, negotiation, advocacy, and representing an organization widely are essential.

A deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, rights, and contemporary challenges is required, along with a dedication to cultural humility and ethical, relationship-driven leadership. The candidate must demonstrate capacity to inspire diverse teams and maintain an inclusive, high-performing workplace culture.

Additional Requirements

• Valid Class 5 driver's licence
• Ability to travel frequently throughout Alberta
• Obtainment and maintenance of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check

Preference is given to candidates with Friendship Centre Movement experience or other Indigenous-led organizations, knowledge of Indigenous socio-political landscapes in Alberta and Canada, and experience with non-profit governance, government funding, grant administration, and organizational advocacy. Indigenous lived experience and established community connections are advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits

ANFCA offers a competitive executive salary ranging from $135,000 to $145,000 annually, dependent on qualifications and experience. Benefits include a comprehensive package, group RRSP plan, health and wellness spending account, and opportunities for professional development. Eligibility for benefits and RRSP plan enrollment begins after a successful six-month probation period, during which employment is subject to termination under agreed terms and legal provisions.
