Job description
Overview
BCITO is New Zealand’s largest apprenticeship provider for the building and construction sector. As an industry-led organisation that has recently begun a new phase as a Private Training Establishment, it is focused on developing the people who build New Zealand. The organisation is now preparing for its next stage of growth with programmes designed to be simple for learners and practical for employers.
Role purpose
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Chief Digital Officer will shape BCITO’s digital direction and help lift the organisation’s digital capability. The role will centre on improving systems and platforms, strengthening service fit, expanding use of AI, and increasing digital visibility at Executive Leadership Team level.
In this senior leadership position, you will advise the Chief Executive, Board, and Executive Leadership Team on digital strategy and the insights needed to support BCITO’s long-term goals.
Key accountabilities
- Create and drive the digital strategy and future vision.
- Lead customer-focused design and service delivery.
- Oversee technology, data, and infrastructure priorities.
- Manage the digital roadmap and portfolio of initiatives.
- Provide people leadership across digital teams.
- Support internal communications and stakeholder engagement.
- Contribute actively to executive leadership and organisation-wide decision-making.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will bring senior-level leadership experience across digital, technology, or product functions, along with a strong track record of leading high-performing multi-disciplinary teams. You will have deep understanding of modern digital delivery, including agile and product-led approaches, cloud architecture, cybersecurity, data strategy, AI, and enterprise systems.
You will also be a strong analyst, comfortable managing vendors and procurement activity, and confident working through organisational complexity. Clear communication, the ability to influence non-technical audiences, and the capacity to work with complex financial information are essential. A collaborative style that earns trust across varied stakeholder groups is also important.
Additional information
This is a senior executive opportunity with real national impact and a purpose-driven organisation.
