Role Overview
The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) is a senior leader providing commercial direction, engaging with capital markets, supporting strategic financial planning, and advising the Board. Key focus areas include assessing commercial opportunities, driving corporate growth strategies, optimizing capital deployment, and nurturing relationships with investors, analysts, financial bodies, and key stakeholders. Collaborating with the CEO, CFO, Board, and external advisors, the successful candidate will be integral in shaping strategy, evaluating funding options, supporting capital market activities, and delivering commercial insights to boost shareholder value. This position suits experienced commercial leaders with expertise in mining, natural resources, corporate finance, investment banking, or capital markets.
Primary Responsibilities
- Guide commercial leadership and provide strategic advice on growth initiatives, capital allocation, partnerships, restructuring, and investment prospects.
- Lead evaluation of exploration ventures, development projects, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic transactions.
- Support budgeting by contributing strategic commercial assumptions, financial scenario analyses, and long-term planning inputs.
- Develop and maintain financial models to evaluate funding needs, project economics, investment returns, and capital strategies.
- Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses related to commodity prices, development timelines, operations, funding structures, and market dynamics.
- Assist debt, equity, and alternative financing efforts by preparing analyses, investor presentations, and transaction documents.
- Build and sustain relationships with institutional investors, investment banks, brokers, analysts, and capital market stakeholders.
- Prepare investor presentations, Board documentation, market updates, and strategic recommendations.
- Monitor industry trends, market developments, competitor performance, investor sentiment, and capital market activity to inform leadership decisions.
- Collaborate with finance, operations, technical, and corporate teams to ensure commercial and operational alignment.
- Ensure commercial communications and investor materials comply with regulatory and governance standards.
- Drive continuous improvements in commercial processes, capital planning, and strategic decision-making capabilities.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, or related field.
- Advanced qualifications such as MBA, CA, CPA, CFA, or similar are highly favored.
- At least 12 years of experience in corporate development, investment banking, corporate finance, equities research, commercial leadership, strategy consulting, or related roles.
- Proven background in mining, natural resources, metals, energy, or resource development sectors.
- Demonstrated experience supporting executive teams, Boards, or public companies with strategic and commercial evaluations.
- Experience with capital raises, debt financing, restructuring, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, or strategic partnerships.
- Strong knowledge of corporate finance, valuation methods, capital markets, project economics, and investment analysis.
- Advanced financial modeling skills including scenario models, valuation frameworks, and investment decision tools.
- Understanding of public company governance, regulatory compliance, and investor relations best practices.
- Skilled in preparing Board-level presentations, investment documents, market communications, and strategic papers.
- Strong analytical abilities to convert complex financial, operational, and technical data into clear commercial insights.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and relationship-building capabilities.
- High integrity, commercial acumen, professionalism, and executive presence.
- Capacity to thrive in dynamic settings, prioritize effectively, and perform under pressure.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Proficient written and spoken English skills are required.
