Job description

Role overview

An opportunity is available for a Chemical Production & Laboratory Technician to join a small chemical manufacturing business in Cork. The position blends practical laboratory work with hands-on production support, making it a strong fit for someone who wants to grow a career in environmental and manufacturing settings.

In this role, you will split your time between laboratory analysis and chemical production activities, helping to maintain product quality, support process improvements, and keep plant operations running smoothly. The position also provides exposure to water and wastewater treatment processes and suits a candidate with a practical chemistry background who enjoys working across both technical and industrial environments.

Key duties

  • Assist with the daily running of the manufacturing process unit.
  • Prepare and manufacture chemical products according to company methods and procedures.
  • Complete quality control checks and verify products before release.
  • Conduct routine laboratory testing on water and wastewater samples.
  • Identify and help resolve issues in manufacturing and process operations, putting corrective measures in place when needed.
  • Offer technical input on assigned production processes.
  • Support plant upkeep, maintenance activities, and general housekeeping.
  • Keep laboratory and production documentation accurate and up to date.
  • Use production equipment, including forklift and bobcat, with training supplied where needed.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental requirements at all times.

Essential requirements

The ideal candidate should hold a third-level qualification in Industrial Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related scientific field. A practical chemistry qualification at Level 6 or above is also required.

Applicants need prior laboratory experience and a genuine interest in water and wastewater treatment processes. Strong verbal and written communication skills are important, along with the ability to work effectively with different teams and departments.

You should be self-driven, well organised, and comfortable solving problems in a busy working environment.

Desirable experience

Experience in the water, wastewater, or environmental sector would be beneficial. Previous exposure to manufacturing or chemical production is also an advantage.

A forklift licence is desirable, although training may be provided if needed. Familiarity with quality systems and laboratory procedures would be useful.

What’s on offer

This position offers varied work across both laboratory and production functions, along with training and development opportunities. You will have the chance to build technical and operational skills in a supportive team environment.

An attractive salary is offered for the role.
