Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Full Time, 6am to 6pm

Role overview

In this position, you will deliver routine day-to-day nursing support to assigned residents in line with their assessments, care plans, and guidance from supervisory nursing staff.

Core duties

• Confirm resident identity using the wristband or photo card file before giving care, serving meals, or carrying out similar tasks.
• Use only the facility’s approved abbreviations when documenting information.
• Escalate any change in a resident’s condition to the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse as quickly as possible.
• Complete flow sheets, notes, charts, and similar records in a clear, detailed, and descriptive way.
• Report every accident or incident observed during the shift.
• Protect resident health information and immediately notify the Administrator of any suspected or confirmed privacy breach.
• Report any suspected or known unauthorized access attempt to the facility’s information system.
• Carry out only the nursing procedures you have been trained and authorized to perform.
• Prepare resident rooms for arrival, including making the bed, placing name tags, and keeping the admission kit ready.
• Welcome residents, guide them to their rooms, and help introduce them to roommates and other people as appropriate.
• Help residents settle in and feel comfortable.
• Record, label, and store personal belongings and clothing as directed.
• Support residents with packing belongings during transfers or discharge, and help move them to new rooms or receiving areas.
• Assist with loading and unloading residents into or out of vehicles when needed.
• Help maintain a warm, respectful, and calm atmosphere on the unit throughout the shift.
• Attend regular shift meetings with nursing staff to help identify issues and improve services.
• Share all resident complaints and grievances.
• Take part in shift handoff and receive the nursing report as instructed.
• Follow established infection-control and blood/body-fluid exposure policies.
• Make beds and add extra covers when requested.
• Measure and record temperatures, pulse, respiration, weight, and other measurements as directed.
• Check residents frequently when they are unable to call for help.
• Respond promptly to resident call lights and routinely verify that personal care needs are being met.
• Help residents understand meal setup, including tray location, food temperature, and identifying items for residents with vision limitations.
• Track food and fluid intake and report any eating-pattern changes to the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse.
• Keep water pitchers clean, filled with fresh water each shift, and within easy reach.
• Carry out post-meal care such as tray removal and cleaning hands, face, and clothing.
• Follow all assigned tasks, policies, procedures, work schedules, and supervisor instructions.
• Coordinate with other departments and facility staff so resident nursing services remain effective.
• Notify the facility in advance when you will be late or absent.
• Report exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, or hazardous chemicals according to incident procedures.
• Support residents with hygiene and daily living tasks, including oral care, bathing, grooming, and dressing.
• Keep residents dry by changing clothing, gowns, and linens when soiled or wet.
• Assist with preparation for lab work, x-rays, therapy, dental visits, and other medical tests.
• Help lift, turn, position, move, and transport residents using beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, and lifts.
• Perform restorative and rehabilitative tasks as directed.
• Help prepare residents for physical examinations.
• Monitor each resident’s personal care needs according to their preferences.
• Watch for pressure areas and skin breakdown and report them early to help prevent bedsores.
• Report injuries from unknown sources, including skin tears.
• Observe disoriented or comatose residents and record/report data as instructed.
• Carry out special treatments when directed.
• Immediately inform the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse if any resident leaves or goes missing from the facility.
• Use only equipment you are trained to operate and report defective equipment promptly.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of resident care information and report any suspected unauthorized disclosure.
• Report all allegations of resident abuse or misappropriation of resident property.
• Respect a resident’s refusal of treatment and escalate the request to your supervisor.

Qualifications

You are expected to have at least a 10th grade education. The role requires the ability to read and understand business materials, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations; write reports and correspondence; and communicate clearly with managers and coworkers. You should also be comfortable working with fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, and be able to solve practical problems in situations with limited standardization while following written, verbal, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions.

Licensing and certifications

A valid Certified Nursing Assistant license in the state is required. CPR certification is preferred.

Physical requirements

This role may require occasional lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds, extended computer use, and regular sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and listening. You may also need to use office equipment such as a copier/scanner/fax machine, telephone, and calculator. During emergencies, you may be asked to help evacuate residents.

Work environment

The workplace is generally quiet to moderately noisy.
