Overview
This school-based traineeship is perfect for students who enjoy practical, outdoor activities and are aiming to build a career in horticulture. The role offers hands-on experience across various horticultural functions such as plant maintenance, landscape care, soil and nutrient management, pest and weed control, irrigation checks, and general upkeep of green spaces, while allowing the trainee to attend school simultaneously.
Responsibilities
- Controlling weeds and managing pests effectively
- Caring for plants through various horticultural tasks
- Keeping accurate records of fertiliser use
- Maintaining gardens to a high standard
- Ensuring irrigation systems function properly
- Performing lawn mowing and use of whipper snippers
- Assisting with general landscape maintenance
- Completing daily assigned tasks under supervision
Candidate Profile
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in diverse weather conditions
- Capable of working both independently and as part of a team
- Interested in practical and mechanical tasks, able to undertake manual labour
- Reliable, punctual, polite, highly organised, with attention to detail
- Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn on the job
- Previous experience in gardening, landscaping or outdoor labour is an advantage but not mandatory
Additional Information
Training will be provided to support the completion of the Certificate III qualification. Traineeship remuneration is aligned with the Horticulture Award 2020 and the National Training Wage.
