Certificate III in Horticulture (Parks & Gardens) Full-time Apprenticeship

Position Overview

This is a full-time apprenticeship role lasting four years, located primarily at Rookwood Cemetery, with occasional responsibilities at satellite locations including North Rocks, Kemps Creek, and Liverpool. Transportation between Rookwood and these additional sites will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate push and ride-on mowers for grass cutting
• Perform hedging and upkeep of garden beds
• Apply fertilisers, plant new flora, replace plants, and undertake weeding tasks
• Collect rubbish to maintain site cleanliness
• Conduct chemical spraying as required
• Develop new garden areas and ensure maintenance of existing landscapes

Apprentices will also receive practical rotational training in the use of earthmoving machinery, including backhoes, skid steers, and mini excavators, with opportunities to earn necessary operational licences during training.

Candidate Requirements

• Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate strong communication skills
• Hold a current valid driver's licence and possess reliable personal transport
• Be prepared to work outdoors under varying weather conditions
• Follow instructions meticulously and prioritize safe working practices
• Uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided
• While not mandatory, possession of a First Aid certificate and Hepatitis B/Tetanus vaccinations are advantageous

Training and Work Schedule

• Attend TAFE one day a week for two and a half years as part of paid work without incurring fees
• Work hours are Monday to Friday with two possible shifts: 6:30 am to 3:00 pm or 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
• Receive one Rostered Day Off (RDO) monthly
