Overview
This CEO position, based in Ireland, offers a rare chance to lead and own a family-operated SME through a Management Buy-In (MBI) program supported by All Interests Aligned (AIA). The role is designed for experienced professionals deeply rooted in Ireland's business ecosystem who are interested in acquiring and managing a high-potential SME facing succession challenges with full backing from seasoned entrepreneurial investors.
Role Journey
- Origination: Identify suitable acquisition targets using financial and strategic support from AIA, with remuneration during the pipeline building phase.
- Deal Closing: Collaborate with AIA's investment team in due diligence, valuation, and structuring to finalize the acquisition.
- Transition: Assume CEO responsibilities with a formal transition process, including leadership handover and stakeholder engagement.
- Operation: Lead company operations while receiving governance, compliance, and reporting support from AIA to implement growth-focused value creation.
- Exit: Develop and execute an exit plan jointly with AIA, ensuring maximized returns and sustainable business continuity.
Target Industries & Investment Specifications
Focus industries include consumer food and beverage products, industrial goods, facilities management, testing/inspection/certification, energy/utilities/environment, chemicals/materials, transportation/logistics, wellness and nutrition (human and animal), and adult learning. Acquisition targets typically have sales between ,z10 and ,x40 million, sustained positive free cash flow (at least 10% of sales), and stable or growing market positions, especially in underserved niches.
Selection Procedure
The admission process is competitive and comprehensive. Candidates undergo a series of leadership evaluations, interviews, business case development, an investment thesis presentation, and a final panel assessment by AIA leaders and external specialists. Preparation for the entire selection spans approximately 15 to 17 weeks, demanding 35 to 40 hours of dedicated commitment.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years managing a business with complete profit and loss responsibility, plus 10-15 years of professional experience post degree.
- Strong operational management background; financial services or consulting experience alone without direct operational P&L leadership will not suffice.
- Expertise in an industry aligned with AIA's investment themes including SMEs and corporates.
- Established local connections in Ireland, strong fluency in the local language and culture, and a thorough understanding of regional economic conditions.
- An entrepreneurial disposition characterized by resilience, ingenuity, and capacity to surmount complex business hurdles.
- Emotional preparedness to lead with a clear vision and dedication to impactful leadership.
