HEINEKEN is focused on shaping the next chapter of beer and beyond, with an emphasis on innovation, growth and creating memorable moments of connection. The business is looking for a Category Manager to support its indirect procurement agenda across Malaysia and Singapore.
Role overview
This position is responsible for building and delivering category plans, improving sourcing outcomes, strengthening supplier performance and creating measurable value across indirect spend. The role works closely with internal teams to deliver savings, better cash flow, reduced risk and stronger operational performance, while also contributing to procurement transformation and alignment with regional and global strategies.
Key responsibilities
The role covers category strategy, strategic sourcing, supplier management, stakeholder partnering, governance and procurement improvement activities.
Category strategy and value creation
- Create and implement category plans for indirect procurement across Malaysia and Singapore.
- Find opportunities to reduce cost, avoid spend, improve cash flow and capture supplier-led innovation and continuous improvement.
- Support harmonisation of categories, alignment of specifications and consolidation of suppliers across the cluster.
- Contribute to regional and global procurement programmes and category plans.
Strategic sourcing and contract management
- Run end-to-end sourcing work, including market analysis, tendering, supplier negotiations and contract finalisation.
- Make sure sourcing activity follows procurement policies, governance standards and relevant regulations.
- Handle strategic contracts and track supplier performance against delivery, quality, service and commercial expectations.
- Keep procurement and contract records accurate in the relevant systems and tools.
Supplier relationship management
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key suppliers and service providers.
- Review supplier performance and put improvement actions in place when needed.
- Promote supplier innovation, sustainability and productivity improvements.
Business partnering
- Work with internal stakeholders to understand needs and provide procurement advice and commercial support.
- Question demand and specifications where needed to achieve the best value, service and risk balance.
- Support budgeting, planning and project work that requires procurement involvement.
Risk, compliance and governance
- Track supply market trends, supplier risks and business continuity risks related to the assigned categories.
- Support initiatives to improve payment terms and working capital.
- Ensure compliance with controls, procurement rules, audit expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Help deploy procurement governance and policies, and support capability building across Malaysia and Singapore.
Procurement transformation
- Support procurement transformation and integration efforts across Malaysia and Singapore.
- Help improve procurement processes, systems and working methods.
- Contribute to special assignments and other procurement-related projects as needed.
Requirements
- A degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or a related field is required.
- Professional procurement certification such as CIPS, ISM or an equivalent qualification will be an advantage.
- At least 5 to 8 years of experience in procurement, sourcing or category management.
- Proven background in leading sourcing initiatives, supplier negotiations and contract administration.
- Experience with indirect procurement in FMCG, manufacturing or multinational organisations is preferred.
- Ability to work across multiple functions and stakeholder groups.
- Strong capability in category management, strategic sourcing, contract management and supplier relationship management.
- Solid negotiation, commercial and procurement analytics skills.
- Good understanding of spend management, governance, compliance and risk management.
- Knowledge of ERP and procurement systems.
- Strong project management and stakeholder management abilities.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
- Demonstrated leadership through ownership, collaboration and getting results through others.
