Position Summary

Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor and Lead Hand, the Housekeeper/Cleaner is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of all front and back areas within the casino. This role requires maintaining a positive image for the casino with both guests and colleagues while adhering to departmental policies, Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission regulations, and occupational health and safety standards. Candidates must be comfortable working in an environment where smoking is permitted.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning tasks including washroom sanitation, carpet shampooing, trash removal, vacuuming, floor waxing and stripping, ashtray emptying, dusting, and gaming machine wiping.
  • Utilize Universal Precaution Protocols for biohazard cleanup such as sharps, vomit, or other bodily fluids.
  • Communicate effectively via two-way radios with casino staff.
  • Complete and submit assigned cleaning duties for night shifts accurately and on time.
  • Report faulty equipment and safety device issues promptly to supervisors.
  • Wear and properly use required protective gear and comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and internal safety policies at all times.
  • Maintain strict adherence to WHMIS guidelines.
  • Attend required training sessions to stay current with procedures and safety protocols.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned based on departmental and casino needs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or an equivalent level of work-related experience.
  • Previous experience in cleaning or housekeeping is beneficial.

Skills and Abilities

  • Competence with floor care machines and other relevant cleaning equipment.
  • Experience with WHMIS and biohazard cleanup protocols is advantageous.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended durations and work in demanding conditions.
  • Capability to lift weights up to approximately 55 lbs and perform repetitive motions.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and multitasking environment.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented and accountable for personal responsibilities.
  • Skills in mentoring and training new team members.
  • Ability to work in a smoke-permitted environment.

Work Schedule

Position requires availability for shift work including nights, weekends, holidays. Scheduled hours for this role are from 10:30 pm to 7:00 am.
