Job description

About Centrecare

Centrecare is a not-for-profit provider employing more than 300 people. It delivers professional counselling, support, accommodation, mediation and training services across 11+ sites in the Perth Metro, Goldfields and Bunbury regions.

The Program

Centrecare's Private Rental Advocacy Service supports people in private rental housing who are at risk of homelessness. The service is typically short to medium term, lasting around 3 to 6 months, and helps with issues such as rental arrears and tenancy-related consultation while also addressing the deeper factors affecting housing stability.

The Opportunity

As a Case Worker, you will support individuals and families dealing with family and domestic violence, alcohol and other drug concerns, mental health challenges, employment barriers, and difficulty meeting tenancy responsibilities such as cleanliness and maintenance. Your focus will be on connecting clients with the right services so they can improve long-term housing security and stability.

Key Duties

  • Complete assessments and provide informal counselling to support clients' personal, social, health and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Deliver therapeutic and capability-building support through assessment, counselling, outreach, capacity building, information sharing and referrals.
  • Help children and families access recreational activities wherever practical and suitable.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community networks and service providers to support positive client outcomes.

What You Need

  • A qualification in Social Work, Social Sciences, Psychology or Counselling.
  • At least 2 years of experience in housing within a community services environment.
  • Proven capability in outreach, homelessness support, individual or family assistance, and/or case management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to contribute effectively in a team setting.
  • Computer skills and the ability to gather and record statistical data for service delivery.
  • The ability to work with a wide range of people, including businesses, community agencies, private real estate agents, government bodies and people from varied socio-economic backgrounds.
  • An understanding of strengths-based client support approaches.
  • A current driver's licence.
  • A National Police Certificate valid within the last 12 months.
  • A current Working with Children Card.

Benefits and Support

  • Discounted corporate health cover through Bupa and Medibank Private.
  • Salary packaging of up to $15,900 to help boost take-home pay.
  • Annual leave loading of 17.5%.
  • An additional 5 days of leave per year pro rata.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.
  • Insurance cover while travelling to and from work.
  • Access to a confidential Employee Assistance Program.
  • Clinical and management supervision.
  • Cultural support for Aboriginal staff through the Cultural Leads.
