Job description
Overview
We welcome individuals seeking to change their career paths or re-enter the workforce, such as after parental leave, to join us as railroad switch operators. During your retraining, you will earn a competitive salary and work collaboratively alongside your colleagues after completing the program.
Starting December 1, 2026, we invite you to begin as a railroad switch operator at DB InfraGO AG with possible locations including Eilenburg, Falkenberg/Elster, Leipzig, Lutherstadt Wittenberg, or Torgau.
Retraining Program
- Theoretical training will take place at our regional training centers.
- Practical assignments will be arranged near your residence whenever possible.
- The full-time retraining consists of 39 hours per week combining classroom and hands-on instruction.
- Groups consist of 12 participants learning essential knowledge required for daily responsibilities as a switch operator.
Post-Retraining Responsibilities
- Operate train traffic control using levers, push buttons, and rotary switches at small and medium signal boxes according to instructions from train controllers.
- Responsible for route verification, track clearance notifications, vacancy checks, train observation, and compliant documentation of operational activities.
- Communicate and coordinate regularly with signal box colleagues, train controllers, and control centers.
- Monitor, supervise, and regulate rail routes, including track closures during disruptions.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum education level: qualified secondary school diploma (Hauptschulabschluss) or equivalent.
- Maintain composure and clear judgment even under pressure or challenging situations.
- Possess a personal vehicle and demonstrate willingness to commute locally.
- Prepared to work shift schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays, while maintaining personal work-life balance.
- Applications from already qualified railroad switch operators are also welcomed.
