About the Role
Horizons Cork is recruiting Care Assistants to provide important support for people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism across various locations in Cork City and County. These positions involve shift work, covering 78 hours over a fortnight including day and night shifts. Staffing will occur in both residential settings and community-based locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Offering dedicated assistance to individuals with intellectual disabilities to help them live fulfilling lives based on their personal goals and choices.
- Working collaboratively with individuals’ support networks and integrating them with their local communities to foster growth in opportunities.
- Operating within person-centred and social support models, maintaining flexibility and motivation in a team environment.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess QQI Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare or Intellectual Disability (completion of all 8 QQI modules mandatory).
- General awareness of relevant legislation, including ADMA and UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
- Strong teamwork abilities, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and creativity in providing adaptable, person-centred care.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential.
- IT skills, particularly experience with report writing, are necessary.
- Legal eligibility to work and reside in Ireland at application time.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience supporting persons with intellectual disabilities, autism, or physical/medical conditions.
- Possession of a full, clean driving license.
Compensation and Benefits
The role operates on the Care Assistant (Disability Services) 13-point salary scale effective from 01/06/2026, ranging from 0,3481 at entry point to 48,434 with long service increments. Starting salary typically begins at the minimum point, except for eligible prior service which may be credited.
