The Opportunity
The Capital Works Operator will support delivery of capital works projects so Veolia can meet its contractual and legislative responsibilities under the approved capital works programme. While the main focus is capital works, duties may shift depending on client needs and contract requirements.
What You Will Do
- Assist the capital works team on site to ensure project tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on time, while following health, safety, and organisational standards.
- Carry out capital works activities from setup through to final completion, making sure deadlines and quality expectations are met.
- Assess risks thoroughly and apply suitable controls to support a zero-harm work environment and comply with safety laws and company procedures.
- Work closely with the Team Lead, contractors, and internal teams to keep projects moving smoothly and maintain clear communication across each stage.
- Carry out inspections and quality checks to ensure all work meets technical, regulatory, and workmanship standards.
- Keep accurate site records, including safety and compliance documentation, to maintain traceability and accountability for project work.
What You Need to Succeed
This role suits someone with a combination of education, training, and practical experience, especially in trade-related work. Experience in the water or wastewater sector is an advantage, along with an understanding of water treatment technologies and processes. You should also be comfortable working with teams and contractors, solving problems on the job, and managing competing priorities in a busy operational environment.
Additional Experience and Capability
- Hands-on trade experience relevant to the role.
- Ability to diagnose faults in damaged 3 waters infrastructure.
- Experience with civil works and operating plant such as excavators.
- Capability to operate Class 2 and Class 4 trucks.
- Strong problem-solving ability and the skill to propose workable methods.
- Working knowledge of water and wastewater operations, maintenance, and project tasks.
- Understanding of the importance of 3 waters operational requirements.
- Awareness of the commercial aspects of Veolia’s operations.
- Ability to organise resources, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Good literacy, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and contractors.
- Comfortable working independently as well as within a team.
- Self-motivated, energetic, detail-focused, and committed to strong customer service.
