Job description

About the Role

OneSchool Global is looking for a caring and committed Student Support Assistant (Teacher Aide) to join the Student Support Team at its Hamilton Campus in Eureka. This is a fixed-term, part-time position of 30 hours per week, focused on providing one-to-one assistance to a Year 10 student with Down syndrome.

Because this role is highly specialised, the successful applicant will receive a three-week handover and training period from the current incumbent to ensure a smooth transition.

The ideal person will communicate with confidence and empathy, and will be strongly committed to inclusive education. Experience in scaffolding and adapting learning, comfort using a range of digital tools, and the ability to build positive working relationships with students, families, and colleagues will be highly valued.

Working hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:00pm, during term time only.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help the student participate in learning by adapting tasks, resources, and support to suit individual needs.
  • Design or modify learning materials that improve engagement and support progress.
  • Reinforce learning objectives, classroom routines, and Learning Centre expectations.
  • Assist with literacy, numeracy, communication, social development, and practical life skills.
  • Encourage participation, independence, and inclusion across all subjects and activities.
  • Contribute to and implement goals set in the Individual Learning Plan (ILP).
  • Apply restorative approaches and positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Observe, track, and document student progress and wellbeing.
  • Communicate effectively with families, staff, and the Student Support Coordinator.
  • Follow procedures relating to health and safety, confidentiality, and student support.
  • Support the student’s safety, transitions, and general wellbeing throughout the school day.

Why You’ll Enjoy This Role

  • Take on a meaningful position where your support can make a real difference to a student’s learning journey.
  • Be part of a collaborative and encouraging campus environment.
  • Receive thorough onboarding and specialist training.
  • Work in modern facilities with complimentary on-site parking.
  • Benefit from an hourly rate above market levels.
  • Access opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Join a strong nationwide support network.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience supporting students with a variety of learning needs.
  • Working knowledge of inclusive education practices.
  • Ability to adapt and scaffold learning for an individual student.
  • Experience using learning support methods and programmes.
  • Confidence with digital technology and educational tools.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work well with staff, students, and families.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to records and documentation.
  • Patience, resilience, empathy, and flexibility.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
  • You need to be able to provide two verbal referees.
  • Successful completion of a police vetting check is required.
  • Prior experience in a similar role is essential.
  • Applications from overseas are not being considered at this time.
