Job description

Position Summary

West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) located in Beckley, WV is seeking to fill multiple Campus Service Worker positions. This role involves providing essential upkeep and support for both indoor and outdoor campus environments. Candidates selected will be considered for all current vacancies in this pool and may be placed in specific roles as openings arise.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strictly follow established safety protocols, procedures, and techniques while performing duties.
  • Use judgment to understand and execute given instructions effectively.
  • Maintain cleanliness inside all campus buildings, including floors, carpets, furniture, walls, restrooms, and kitchens.
  • Take care of outdoor areas by removing leaves and debris, cleaning gutters, handling snow and ice removal including salt spreading, and graffiti washing.
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as walk-behind and riding scrubbers, high-speed burnishers, hand tools, and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Correctly measure and dilute commercial disinfectants, detergents, and solutions according to specified amounts.
  • Assist with moving office and classroom furniture, file cabinets, and boxes using appropriate equipment like handtrucks and dollies.
  • Support setup and breakdown for special events.
  • Manage miscellaneous tasks such as trash and recycling collection, replenishing supplies, securing buildings, assisting coworkers, and responding to various service requests.
  • Remain updated on safety requirements and attend periodic training sessions.
  • Operate university vehicles as necessary.

Work Schedule and Compensation

The work schedule may vary. This is a full-time position classified under pay grade 7. Salary is competitive and considers experience and education. Full-time employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including 12 paid holidays and paid time off, plus additional discounts and services. Benefits vary for part-time roles; temporary positions are typically not eligible for benefits.

Candidate Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent education combined with relevant experience.
  • Up to six months of directly related work experience is acceptable.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for long durations, bend, stoop, climb, and lift heavy items weighing between 50 to 75 pounds.
  • Willingness to work in environments with exposure to dust, chemicals (cleaning solutions), fumes, and variations in indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Reliability in attendance and punctuality.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license is required.

Physical Demands

  • Work at varying ladder heights.
  • Handle hazardous chemicals and waste safely.
  • Climb stairs frequently.
  • Carry, drag, and lift objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Work under adverse weather and temperature conditions.
