About City of Farmington Hills Unplugged Summer Camps

We are searching for energetic and responsible individuals to join our team as Nature Camp Coordinators. In this role, you will be integral to providing children and teens with an enjoyable and safe camp experience. Responsibilities include leading a variety of activities, ensuring a secure environment, and actively engaging in swimming activities with the campers.

Key Responsibilities

• Guarantee the safety and well-being of campers and staff at all times.
• Oversee camp staff and campers during activities, meal times, and breaks.
• Implement and enforce camp rules to maintain inclusivity and safety.
• Effectively communicate any issues within the camp team.
• Plan and lead diverse, age-appropriate activities such as games, arts and crafts, and team-building exercises.
• Collaborate with Camp Instructors to deliver a varied and engaging program.
• Encourage participation through group discussions and interactive activities.
• Develop weekly lesson plans integrating educational and recreational content.
• Engage actively in outdoor activities, ensuring camper safety and enjoyment.
• Organize and facilitate outdoor hikes, nature exploration, STEM learning, and wilderness skills development.
• Assist in coordinating water-based games and activities.
• Work collaboratively with camp staff to plan and execute daily schedules smoothly.
• Attend regular meetings and trainings to maintain alignment with camp objectives.
• Build positive rapport with campers to promote teamwork and mutual respect.
• Respond attentively to camper needs, offering guidance and support.
• Maintain clear communication with parents, campers, and staff, reporting incidents or updates promptly.

Qualifications and Skills

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma required; some college preferred, especially majors in education, recreation, environmental science, or related fields.
• Experience working with children in camp or recreational settings is mandatory.
• CPR and First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain prior to camp start.
• Strong passion for nature and outdoor activities.
• Positive demeanor, patience, and a sincere commitment to camper development.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Adaptability to changing circumstances with effective problem-solving skills.

Work Schedule and Physical Requirements

The role demands a commitment of 35+ hours per week, Monday through Friday, from June to August 2026. Physical duties include prolonged periods of standing, walking, kneeling, and handling objects. The ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions is essential.

Compensation and Incentives

• Earn up to $800 weekly, with potential for higher pay in specialty camps.
• Many roles start at $14 per hour or more.
