Job description
Overview
This role supports the upkeep of a remote camp by keeping shared spaces and sleeping quarters clean, sanitary, and well organized. The position also involves monitoring supplies, handling laundry-area cleanliness, and helping maintain equipment and linens in good condition.
Key Duties
- Clean and maintain communal areas and sleeping accommodations in the camp.
- Dust and vacuum room furnishings, blinds, hallway window frames, door frames, fire extinguishers, emergency lights, and picture frames.
- Wash, scrub, and disinfect showers, sinks, toilets, and high-touch items such as door handles, fridge handles, sink knobs, chair handles, drawer handles, drawer fronts, blind wands, shower heads, shower ledges, medicine cabinets, closet handles, TV remotes, desks, desk shelving, bedside lights, and switches.
- Keep the laundry room tidy and well arranged.
- Remove waste and recycling each day and sanitize the bins.
- Track bedding issued in camp, report any shortages to the Camp Manager, and store linen securely.
- Support inventory checks for cleaning materials.
- Report equipment issues or deficiencies to supervisors right away.
- Drive vehicles as part of the job requirements.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant has prior commercial housekeeping experience in a hotel or remote camp environment. You should be comfortable using standard cleaning methods, products, chemicals, and equipment, and be able to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing. The role also calls for multitasking, steady performance in a busy setting, and strong people skills.
Requirements
- Previous commercial housekeeping experience in a hotel or remote camp environment.
- Current First Aid and WHMIS certification.
- Working knowledge of cleaning procedures, chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
- Ability to communicate in English through listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
- Strong multitasking skills and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
- Ability to operate washers, dryers, vacuum cleaners, floor polishers, and other electrical and non-electrical cleaning equipment.
- Must pass a drug and alcohol screening.
- Must pass a criminal record check.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; learner permits are not accepted.
- Scheduled shifts are 10 hours per day.
- Rotation schedule is 20 days on and 10 days off.
Compensation and Hiring Notes
The hourly wage for this position is $19.50. Final pay may vary depending on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. The employer follows applicable pay transparency laws.
