Job description

Role overview

The Food Service Worker supports meal preparation, presentation, and serving, with a focus on food quality and an attractive overall appearance of the food offered.

Core duties

  • Carry out preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding fruits and vegetables.
  • Move pans, kettles, and trays between work areas, stoves, and refrigerators while following safety guidelines.
  • Place food in the correct storage locations and follow wrapping, dating, rotation, and food safety practices.
  • Arrange products and items for sale each day.
  • Handle routine cleaning work, including taking trash and waste to the proper disposal areas.
  • Distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment as needed.
  • Use approved recipes and production standards to maintain quality, correct serving temperatures, and portion control; alert cooks if temperatures fall outside acceptable limits.
  • Deliver courteous and efficient service to customers using the required service steps.
  • Address customer issues and pass relevant details to the supervisor.
  • Follow all sanitation and workplace safety rules.
  • Support retail operations, including cashier duties and line service.

Qualifications and skills

This role is suited to candidates who can manage a busy workload, stay organized, and handle tasks independently as well as alongside a team. Clear English communication is important, along with the ability to follow both written and spoken instructions. Prior experience in food service, especially in healthcare, hotels, restaurants, or fast food, is helpful but not mandatory. Physical stamina is needed to perform the job effectively. FoodSafe Level 1 certification and cash register experience are considered advantages.

Additional information

Final pay will depend on the candidate’s relevant skills, work history, qualifications, and internal pay alignment. The employer follows all applicable pay transparency rules. Details about total rewards will be discussed by the Talent Acquisition team during the hiring process. Canadian work experience is not required. Artificial intelligence-based tools may be used at certain stages of recruitment and applicant screening.
