Role Overview

This position is accountable for ensuring that all aircraft Engines and Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) comply rigorously with mandatory airworthiness regulations, including CAMO and ETOPS standards where applicable. The focus is on maintaining optimal reliability and cost-efficiency in support of Qatar Airways’ operational and financial goals. The role involves analyzing shop visit reports and invoices to find opportunities for reliability improvements and cost reductions. Additionally, it oversees management of engines and APUs in line with contractual requirements, organizing engineering activities to fulfill company objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess Airworthiness and Service Documentation such as AD, CN, SB, SIL, OIT, AOT, VSB, TFU, and FTD issued by regulatory bodies or manufacturers, and promptly take necessary actions like issuing EO, ESWC, CMA, TN or amending technical documents and maintenance programs.
  • Review and provide recommendations on technical and commercial proposals, retrofit modification orders, and corporate engineering change requests.
  • Maintain the fleet at an optimal component and system reliability level while controlling costs to support operational needs.
  • Develop effective removal plans that align with life-limited parts and performance criteria to reduce unscheduled engine removals.
  • Ensure suppliers deliver work scopes in accordance with Qatar Airways agreements to maximize engine time on wing.
  • Monitor engines and APUs health status and ensure proactive technical interventions to prevent foreseeable defects.
  • Conduct technical analyses of engine and APU contracts, considering economic factors, managing contracts to safeguard company interests and achieve cost savings.
  • Initiate and coordinate campaign inspections, modifications, and engine/APU/component shop visits to ensure timely completion.
  • Investigate technical reports such as TORs, MORs, and ASRs, recommending and implementing corrective and preventive measures.
  • Incorporate industry experience related to aircraft and component service to enhance reliability and service standards; participate in conferences and workshops as necessary.
  • Suggest updates to aircraft maintenance programs and minimum equipment lists (MEL) according to airworthiness authority guidelines tailored to Qatar Airways.
  • Prepare product specifications and aid the commercial team in drafting RFIs, RFPs, and purchase agreements for new or upgraded components and systems.
  • Verify accuracy of engineering data and drawings prior to implementation.
  • Develop short-term removal plans and long-term removal forecasts that align with Qatar Airways’ financial strategy.
  • Review and approve engine and APU invoices ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
  • Plan engine and APU workscopes for operational units considering lease returns, fleet exit strategies, and commercial impact.
  • Review lease return conditions to guarantee engines and APUs meet requirements upon return.
  • Maintain strong relationships with OEMs, contracted MROs, and service providers.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Head of Department.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering disciplines such as Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Aeronautical Engineering.
  • A minimum of four years of relevant experience in airworthiness, reliability, or technical support engineering roles within a continuing airworthiness maintenance organization of a reputable airline.
  • Holding a B1 or B2 ICAO Type II License is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of aircraft systems, powerplant, and structures, ideally with training on one or several aircraft types operated by the airline.
  • Familiarity with systems like Airman, Airbus World, My Boeing Fleet, Airplane Health Management, Maintenance Performance Toolbox, and Airbus/Boeing technical request applications is advantageous.
  • Experience managing contracts and commercial commitment letters.
