Job description

Role overview

Norwich City Football Club is seeking a casual Scout to help spot and recruit talented academy-level footballers who could progress into Norwich City Academy. Because the work is ad hoc, candidates should already be based in Cambridgeshire or live nearby.

About the academy environment

The club’s Academy operates within the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), a long-term framework designed to build a top-class academy system. The aim is to create an environment that drives high standards, develops promising players and turns that talent into professionals capable of playing first-team football for the club that trains them. Under this framework, professional clubs receive an academy category based on how well they meet the required standards. Norwich City Academy has achieved the highest level, Category One.

What the role involves

Scouts support the scouting and recruitment function by covering local grassroots football in a structured way, helping the club identify realistic targets for academy recruitment.

Pay

This is a paid position with an hourly rate. Remuneration will be reviewed over time, with stronger performers receiving improved pay and access to more matches to observe.

Experience and suitability

The club is looking for someone with at least 1 year of scouting experience. A background in scouting or practical knowledge of the local grassroots football scene will be important.

Essential requirements

  • Strong understanding of local grassroots football
  • Previous scouting experience or a relevant background
  • Highly self-driven and committed
  • Good at planning, organising and coordinating activity
  • Able to work independently as well as within a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with people
  • Clear communication skills
  • Comfortable using computers
  • Full driving licence
