Job description

Position Overview

Join our dedicated calf rearing team during the Autumn calving season at Exeter, a purpose-built facility near Taupō, New Zealand. This fixed-term job runs from now until mid-December 2026 and offers flexible rostered hours, with the opportunity to drive in and out. Reliable transportation is required as there is no on-site accommodation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Feed and care for calves throughout the calving season
  • Maintain general animal hygiene and welfare standards
  • Handle calves physically when required
  • Administer animal health treatments as needed
  • Process calves through cattle yards safely and efficiently

About Exeter and Pāmu

Exeter Calf Rearing is situated 15 minutes from central Taupō and spans 130 effective hectares with modern infrastructure designed to facilitate large-scale rearing. The facility can accommodate up to 660 calves at once, aiming to rear 2,400 calves this autumn and 3,600 in spring.

Candidate Profile

  • Physically robust with stamina and fitness to handle demanding tasks, including lifting up to 20 kg
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and animal welfare standards
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive willingness to learn
  • Capable of working independently without direct supervision
  • No previous experience is required; training will be provided
