About Crossroads Marlborough Cafe

Crossroads Marlborough operates a community cafe and kitchen designed to reduce isolation and loneliness by providing meals and social engagement. Our service includes soups and cabinet food from Monday to Friday, plus an Evening Community Dinner requiring servers, kitchen hands, and dishwashers.

Role Overview

Cafe servers serve as the friendly and welcoming representatives of our organization, helping create a positive experience for all visitors. Our volunteer team is supportive and enjoyable to work with.

Ideal Candidate

We seek mature individuals with an open-minded attitude, an enjoyment of hospitality work, a courteous and empathetic personality, and enthusiasm for engaging with customers. Previous hospitality experience is beneficial but not essential; a willingness to serve and a positive attitude are our priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide excellent, friendly customer service as the face of the cafe.
• Maintain good personal hygiene and uphold cleanliness standards throughout the shift.
• Perform light cleaning duties including wiping tables, cleaning surfaces, sweeping and mopping floors, and cleaning bathrooms and toilets at day’s end.
• Remain on feet for the duration of the approximately three-hour shift.

Time Commitment

Shifts are available Monday to Friday, either 8 am to 11 am or 11 am to 2 pm. Additionally, Wednesday evening meal shifts are offered, providing flexible scheduling options. Volunteers can select their preferred frequency of volunteering.
