Role Summary

LUZCO is hiring a Drafter / Designer to support substation engineering and power delivery work by producing and maintaining accurate technical drawings. The position involves working with engineers and project teams to build and revise 2D drawings in tools such as AutoCAD and MicroStation. The work covers substation physical layouts, single-line diagrams, schematics, and protection and control drawings, with a strong focus on precision and compliance with client standards. This opportunity is suitable for candidates at different experience levels who want to build a career in substation design, utilities, and power delivery.

Key Duties

  • Create, revise, and maintain digital engineering drawings.
  • Develop substation physical drawings and protection and control drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or comparable software.
  • Partner with engineers and other teammates to produce 2D drawings for substation projects.
  • Take responsibility for assigned work and deliver accurate drawings within deadlines.
  • Prepare substation-related documentation such as single-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, control house layouts, and substation elevations.
  • Apply and uphold client-specific drafting standards and project specifications.
  • Provide support on other tasks and assist across the team as needed.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational habits.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to customer drawing standards.
  • Solid analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and readiness to travel occasionally for multi-state assignments.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience; entry-level applicants are welcome.
  • An associate degree (AAS) in Drafting and Design or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Previous utility or substation drafting experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, or substation layouts is advantageous.
