Job description

Role overview

Bridge Brothers, a rapidly expanding U.S. bridge specialist, designs, engineers, fabricates, and builds custom steel bridge systems for public and private clients across the country. The company is growing its internal engineering and detailing team and is hiring a CAD Designer in Greenville, South Carolina to produce fabrication, assembly, and construction drawings for complex bridge and structural steel work.

This position is central to the engineering workflow. The CAD Designer will take ownership of drafting tasks so engineers can concentrate on design, analysis, and project delivery. The role suits someone who enjoys turning engineering ideas into precise, clear, and fabrication-ready drawings while working closely with engineering, fabrication, quality, and operations teams. The hire is expected to make an immediate contribution as more detailing and drafting responsibilities move in-house.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, update, and maintain production, detail, and assembly drawings.
  • Create fabrication and construction drawings that include the proper views, dimensions, tolerances, and explanatory notes.
  • Turn engineering sketches, marked-up drawings, and design ideas into complete final drawings.
  • Develop detailed multi-view drawings for structural parts, assemblies, and bridge systems.
  • Use CAD tools to support work from early concept through fabrication and installation.
  • Check dimensions, material details, part fit, and constructability for accuracy.
  • Carry out basic calculations related to angles, measurements, weights, radii, tolerances, and clearances.
  • Apply drafting and engineering practices to ensure drawings are accurate and buildable.
  • Help engineers by making sure drawing packages are complete and ready for fabrication.
  • Follow drafting and engineering standards consistently.
  • Track drawing revisions and keep project files organized.
  • Maintain drawing databases and related project records.
  • Coordinate drawing changes with engineering, QA, fabrication, and manufacturing teams.
  • Assist with CAD file conversions and system updates when required.
  • Support process improvements across engineering and detailing workflows.

Requirements

  • An associate degree in Drafting, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology, or a similar discipline is preferred.
  • Relevant education, technical training, and drafting experience in combination may also be accepted.
  • Hands-on experience using AutoCAD is required.
  • Exposure to SolidWorks, Tekla, Inventor, Revit, or other 3D modeling tools is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, technical documents, and fabrication packages.
  • Good grasp of drafting conventions and engineering terminology.
  • Strong numeracy and problem-solving ability.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new software and internal systems.
  • Backgrounds from structural steel fabrication, bridge and infrastructure, construction, manufacturing, heavy industrial work, miscellaneous metals, mechanical design, or architectural drafting are welcome.
