About the Role
A prominent manufacturing-focused company is looking for a Buyer to enhance their purchasing operations. This position is pivotal in maintaining uninterrupted material supply while fostering supplier performance improvements, process optimizations, and cost-saving initiatives. The role involves close collaboration with internal departments and global vendors to manage routine procurement tasks as well as strategic projects related to inventory, operations, and expense management.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and support purchasing strategies in line with business goals and key performance indicators.
- Work collaboratively with teams including Scheduling, Production, Engineering, Quality, and Customer Service.
- Serve as a primary liaison for suppliers based in North America and overseas.
- Leverage ERP/MRP platforms to oversee demand planning, order processing, and inventory control.
- Evaluate planned orders and issue purchase orders accurately.
- Maintain comprehensive purchase order records covering cost, quantities, and shipment schedules.
- Track and troubleshoot overdue orders via daily reports and coordination with vendors.
- Contribute to cost reduction by sourcing new vendors, benchmarking prices, and negotiating terms.
- Cultivate strong supplier relations and monitor vendor performance and risks.
- Participate in vendor pricing cycles and assist with negotiations especially involving international suppliers.
- Support daily Material Requirements Planning activities and facilitate month-end closing procedures.
Candidate Profile
- Holder of a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management.
- Professional credentials like CSCL or APICS considered advantageous.
- At least five years of purchasing or supply chain management experience.
- Experience with overseas sourcing and inventory management preferred.
- Familiarity with manufacturing environments characterized by high product mix and low volume.
- Mandatory fluency in Mandarin.
- Proficient in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office suite.
- Capacity to juggle multiple tasks in a dynamic workplace.
- Excellent organizational, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of foreign exchange implications in supply decisions.
- Understanding of ROP, forecasting, and lean manufacturing methods is a plus.
- Technical knowledge in welding, machining, or fabrication is beneficial.
Work Setting and Conditions
- Work takes place in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and varying temperatures.
- Frequent interaction with production and operations personnel.
- Occasional manual lifting of items up to 25 pounds.
- Some travel to supplier sites or other company locations may be required.
