Senior Buyer

About the Role

The Senior Buyer at Vanguard EMS takes charge of coordinating material quotations, selecting sourcing options, and managing procurement activities for both component and Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) capital supplies. This role includes maintaining purchasing databases to monitor procurement, inventory levels, and vendor performance. Key Responsibilities

• Procure materials according to Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) to fulfill customer demand.
• Collaborate closely with customers and Program Teams to address component requirements, approved manufacturer lists (AML), availability, excess inventory, and quality issues.
• Prepare and manage quotes for existing and prospective clients and oversee purchasing and management of MRO materials.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure continuous supply chain effectiveness.
• Keep purchasing and material databases accurate and up to date.
• Assist in accounting, material control, and inventory management activities.
• Negotiate maintenance contracts when necessary.
• Contribute to the creation and refinement of purchasing policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

• Proficiency in computer applications, especially Microsoft Excel including advanced functions like VLOOKUPs, alongside Office and Outlook programs.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities, proactive follow-up, strong negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Self-driven and able to take initiative, make decisions, and manage risks responsibly.
• Between 3 to 5 years of purchasing experience specifically in electronic components.
• Business degree or equivalent education required.
• Preferred experience in procuring equipment and MRO materials within a manufacturing setting.
• Familiarity with ISO-certified business environments is advantageous.
• Solid understanding of MRP and inventory management systems is necessary.
• Certifications such as Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) are preferred.

Education

• At minimum, a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is necessary.
• Experience in purchasing various raw materials is expected.

Physical Requirements

The role entails manual dexterity for handling tools and controls, the ability to reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and verbal communication. Vision requirements include both close and distance vision. Use of computers and telephones is frequent.
