Overview

Scotiabank is hiring a Business System Analyst to support its payments technology and modernization efforts in Toronto, Ontario. The role sits within a purpose-led, high-performance environment and focuses on improving payment solutions, strengthening customer value, and working across internal teams and external partners.

This position offers exposure to a broad mix of businesses, technologies, and stakeholders, with the opportunity to contribute to strategic infrastructure that supports the evolving payments landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the analysis, write-up, and validation of business needs, making sure changes and decisions are accurately recorded.
  • Work closely with business partners, technology teams, and external collaborators to deliver complete end-to-end solutions.
  • Convert complex business problems into structured functional requirements and user stories.
  • Run workshops and working meetings with cross-functional groups to collect and assess requirements.
  • Help shape and improve payment processes while keeping them aligned with industry practices and regulatory expectations.
  • Assist the scrum master and project manager with planning, scope definition, and impact assessments for initiatives.
  • Carry out gap analysis, root-cause reviews, and release-readiness checks for payment platform changes and enhancements.
  • Serve as a payments subject matter expert on related projects and operational improvement efforts.
  • Track how solutions perform after deployment and support incident resolution.
  • Work to tight timelines, including extended hours during peak periods when required to meet delivery commitments.
  • Coach and guide junior team members.
  • Contribute to additional portfolio activities where needed.
  • Promote a customer-first mindset and help strengthen client relationships and broader bank knowledge-sharing.
  • Support a high-performing, inclusive workplace culture.
  • Participate in testing cycles as needed.
  • Attend the office three times per week.

Requirements

  • Strong background in business process mapping, requirements elicitation and documentation, and systems analysis.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and business audiences and turn complex information into practical insights.
  • Capability to perform gap analysis across different payment standards.
  • Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving environment and managing several priorities at once.
  • Ability to identify project risks early and support overall delivery health.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira, Confluence, and MS Office.
  • Payments domain expertise is required, including MT formats, MX (ISO 20022), and CBPR+.
  • FED payments domain knowledge is considered an advantage.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Prior experience in banking or financial services is preferred.
