About the Role

The Business Intelligence Lead Analyst at GS1 Canada is entrusted with crafting, managing, and evolving reporting, analytics, and data-driven solutions aligned with the company's strategic goals and Industry Managed Solutions. Collaborating with senior leadership, internal teams, and stakeholders, the role focuses on gathering detailed requirements, analyzing data workflows, and delivering actionable insights to empower informed business decisions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Engage with various internal stakeholders to collect and document comprehensive business requirements.
  • Perform root cause analyses to understand business needs, define success criteria, and establish timelines for analytical solutions and reporting.
  • Design, develop, integrate, test, and deploy BI and reporting tools using technologies such as SQL, Excel, VBA, Power BI, Python, and relational databases.
  • Maintain and improve the TrueSource™ Dashboard ensuring it remains accurate, intuitive, and valuable to industry participants.
  • Enhance ETL workflows, data models, and processes to improve quality and accessibility of data.
  • Execute thorough system testing to confirm data integrity and performance before releases.
  • Diagnose and resolve data discrepancies, identifying opportunities to uplift data reliability.
  • Generate reports, technical documentation, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to uphold reporting and data management standards.
  • Support data governance through standardized data definitions, naming conventions, and consistent documentation.
  • Automate recurring tasks to minimize manual effort and boost department efficiency.
  • Develop key performance indicators, dashboards, and forecasting models to drive continuous improvement and data-informed insights for Industry Managed Solutions.
  • Lead migration projects and facilitate smooth transitions of reporting and analytics across systems.
  • Provide mentorship to junior analysts, assisting in onboarding, training, and knowledge sharing.
  • Champion initiatives focused on automation, process enhancements, analytics modernization, and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Offer leadership support promoting collaboration and prioritizing project delivery across teams.

Qualifications and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Computer Science, Statistics, or related disciplines.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Business Intelligence, data analysis, or related analytics roles.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading projects, mentoring teams, or managing cross-functional collaborations is advantageous.
  • Advanced SQL skills along with strong expertise in Power BI and Excel (including Power Query and VBA).
  • Proficiency in Python for data manipulation and task automation.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and BI industry best practices.
  • Experience in data validation, troubleshooting, and enhancing data quality measures.
  • Background in managing enterprise-level reporting systems, dashboard upgrades, and platform migrations.
