About the role
In this Business Development Manager position, you will be responsible for winning new business in the legal small-law market. Success in the role will come from outbound prospecting, cold calling, relationship building, and closing deals to meet monthly billing goals. This is a permanent full-time position based in Melbourne or Adelaide, with a flexible hybrid arrangement that blends home and office work.
Key responsibilities
- Generate new business and expand market presence through extensive outbound activity, including cold calls, email campaigns, and in-person client visits.
- Identify and qualify prospects through structured discovery conversations, then recommend suitable LexisNexis solutions based on their needs.
- Manage the complete sales process from first contact through to close, with the ability to perform in a fast-moving environment.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across strategic and designated accounts.
- Keep records accurate by tracking activity, client interactions, sales stages, and forecasts in the database.
- Work closely with the Business Development Director, Marketing, and Inside Sales teams to support lead generation and identify opportunities.
Requirements
- Background in business development or sales, preferably within B2B, professional services, legal, or technology environments.
- Strong ability to close and negotiate, with a history of securing deals worth $100K or more.
- Confidence in building relationships and managing stakeholders at different levels.
- Experience using a consultative, solution-led sales style.
- Highly driven, self-motivated, and focused on outperforming targets.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, including the ability to create persuasive proposals and influence decision-makers.
Benefits and working style
LexisNexis promotes a balanced approach to work and life. The organisation offers wellbeing initiatives, shared parental leave, study support, and sabbatical opportunities to help employees manage both current responsibilities and longer-term goals.
Additional benefits include discounted health cover and optical assistance, life assurance and income protection, the option to purchase extra annual leave, an employee assistance program, flexible working arrangements, family benefits, and access to learning and development resources.
