Job description
Role overview
BDO Tauranga is hiring a Business Analyst to join its Deal Advisory and Business Restructuring team. This position is a strong fit for someone who wants to contribute to a varied mix of advisory assignments while learning from seasoned professionals. The work will support businesses facing important decisions, expansion plans, and financial stress, with a wide exposure to clients, industries, and project types.
Located in Tauranga, this role is designed to help you strengthen your technical capability, commercial judgement, and client-facing skills through hands-on advisory work.
What you will do
You will contribute across Deal Advisory, Business Restructuring, and Business Advisory Services assignments. The work may include litigation support, investigative accountant reviews, distressed business advisory, equity raising, debt financing, insolvency appointments, financial statement preparation, management reporting, compliance-related work, due diligence on both buy-side and sell-side transactions, business valuations, financial modelling, forecasting, and mergers and acquisitions.
In day-to-day delivery, you will analyse financial and operational information, prepare reports, carry out research, assist with insolvency matters, build financial models, and collaborate with clients and other stakeholders.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will have a degree in accounting or finance and at least 3 years of experience in public practice accounting, advisory, corporate finance, insolvency, restructuring, audit, or a similar professional services environment. Progress toward, or completion of, CA or CFA is also expected.
You should bring strong analytical and problem-solving ability, advanced Excel capability, confidence handling financial data, and excellent report writing and communication skills. Good organisation, time management, curiosity, a methodical approach, and the ability to work independently are important. Professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and the ability to coach less experienced team members are also valued.
What you will gain
This role offers a collaborative and supportive team environment, exposure to a broad range of engagements that build both technical and commercial expertise, and a workplace that is flexible and focused on supporting its people.
Additional requirements and recruitment notes
Applicants must already have the right to work in New Zealand. Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete aptitude testing. The selected candidate will also need to pass pre-employment screening, including reference checks, a criminal history check, and a credit check. Applications will be considered as they are received, and the employer may appoint someone before the closing date.
If you are looking for a position that blends analytical thinking, commercial insight, and meaningful business impact, this role offers that opportunity in Tauranga.
