Role Overview
The Building Envelopes Specialist offers expert technical support and leadership concerning all facets of building envelope design and construction. Reporting to the Design Engineer Lead, the role involves close collaboration with project teams, principal engineers, and contractors to guarantee façade and envelope solutions meet compliance standards, are efficient, and practical for construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist consultancy on building envelope systems such as cladding, façades, glazing, insulation, roofing, and waterproofing.
- Assess and validate design drawings, proposals, specifications, and mock-ups ensuring adherence to project standards and requirements.
- Identify and address risks related to design and construction, working with teams to develop mitigation plans.
- Provide on-site technical support in resolving building envelope related issues.
- Coordinate with design teams, contractors, and clients to assure design integrity and feasibility.
- Help develop technical solutions for complex challenges in building envelopes.
- Participate actively in design reviews, workshops, and project coordination meetings.
- Advise on material choices, detailing, and performance criteria.
- Promote utilization of BIM and other digital tools for modelling, coordination, and delivery of building envelope designs.
- Maintain documentation and workflows aligned with company standards, quality assurance, and project needs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering Services department.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff on building envelope systems and project demands.
- Share best practices and technical knowledge across the Engineering team and contribute to training efforts.
Candidate Profile and Skills
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and prioritization abilities.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying technical details to diverse audiences.
- Proficient in BIM and digital engineering platforms.
- Experience designing, specifying, and managing the construction of complex building envelopes.
- Expertise in façades, cladding, glazing, roofing, and waterproofing technologies with a critical eye for compliance, performance, and practicality.
Qualifications
- Degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural or Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in building envelope technologies, digital design, or construction technology.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with BIM and relevant design software.
- Professional accreditation such as MICE, RIBA or equivalent is advantageous.
