Job description

Position Overview

The Broker Clerk role entails thorough verification and processing of customs-related documentation and shipments, ensuring compliance with customs and local regulations from start to finish. This position demands coordination with multiple stakeholders to guarantee efficient cargo handling and clearance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify tariff classifications and assigned customs files accurately.
  • Submit documentation to customs authorities and manage payment and dispatch procedures for assigned files.
  • Follow up on customs submissions and maintain an internal clearance log.
  • Deliver dispatched goods when necessary, adhering to legal regulations throughout the clearing process.
  • Digitally upload processed files to internal systems and maintain physical archives.
  • Communicate with customers regarding shipment handling, addressing inquiries and complaints per established procedures and customer requirements.
  • Provide regular updates and flag complex clearance issues to the Broker Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with airline, shipping lines, suppliers, and contractors to ensure shipment compliance and smooth operation flow.
  • Create and upload customs documentation to the webserver, prepare billing templates for the Finance department, and scan invoices for server posting.
  • Coordinate the collection of duties and services with customers prior to or upon delivery.
  • Process inbound and outbound shipments and file all shipping documents in line with standard procedures.
  • Monitor shipment status within company systems such as Ops log and Cargo Wise, and manage empty container returns according to demurrage protocols.
  • Identify and report process non-conformities, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience performing similar customs and shipment functions is desirable.
  • Possession of a Grade I Broker's license is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Basic understanding of AFR & OFR operations, including handling, documentation, and customs clearance procedures.
  • Strong documentation skills and compliance awareness.
