Job description
Role Overview
This position places you at the center of a large humanitarian network, where your work helps support lifesaving blood collection efforts for hospitals and communities. The organization provides paid training, so prior medical experience is not required. You will use customer service and healthcare-related abilities to support the full blood donation workflow while helping create a positive experience for volunteer donors.
You will be part of a team that sets up collection sites, welcomes donors, follows safety protocols, and helps ensure collected blood meets regulatory and quality standards. The role is also a chance to build phlebotomy and healthcare skills within a mission-driven environment.
Key Work Areas
- Support donors by greeting them, listening to their concerns and helping them understand the value of their contribution.
- Work with teammates to create a calm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere for repeat volunteer donors.
- Stay focused on accuracy throughout the day so that collected blood meets required goals and safety rules for transfusion.
- Assist with transporting, setting up and dismantling equipment at donation locations in local communities.
- May be asked to drive organization vehicles; a minimum height of 60 inches may be required to operate vehicles safely.
Schedule and Work Conditions
This role follows a variable schedule that can include mornings, afternoons and evenings. Rotating weekends are part of the schedule. To support donor and community needs, shifts may include early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays. In some locations, overnight travel may be required. Schedules are usually shared two to three weeks ahead of time.
Training and Development
Paid phlebotomy training is provided, giving you the opportunity to grow healthcare skills while working in a nationally recognized humanitarian organization.
Pay
The starting pay is $20.19 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or an equivalent credential is required.
- Previous customer service experience and strong verbal communication abilities are required.
- A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
- Basic computer knowledge is required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- You must be able to lift, push or pull heavy items, move equipment up and down ramps and stairs, sit or stand for long periods, and handle long or irregular hours with frequent schedule changes.
- The job may require a minimum height of 60 inches for safe vehicle operation.
- Teamwork is essential, especially when setting up and tearing down mobile blood drive equipment at businesses, schools and other sites.
Preferred Background
- Prior experience in healthcare or phlebotomy, such as CNA, MA or EMT work, is an advantage.
- Previous leadership experience is also considered a plus.
Benefits
- Medical, dental and vision coverage
- Health spending and flexible spending account options
- Paid time off beginning at 15 days per year, depending on role type and tenure
