Job description

Role overview

This opportunity is shared on behalf of a partner organization that will handle the application review and subsequent hiring steps. The company is seeking a Blockchain Engineer focused on ecosystem research and business exploration in New Zealand.

The role is part of a highly exploratory engineering setting where the main goal is to identify practical, measurable business uses for blockchain technology. It blends research, engineering, and product-oriented thinking, so curiosity and experimentation matter as much as technical depth. You will develop prototypes, test new ideas, and turn findings into recommendations that can shape infrastructure-level choices. Because the work moves quickly and does not sit within a fixed domain, adaptability and strong analytical ability are essential. You will work closely with protocol and product teams in a fully remote, highly independent environment. This is a strong fit for early-career engineers who want to help shape the future of Web3 through hands-on discovery and technical exploration.

Key responsibilities

  • Investigate blockchain use cases across a wide range of business contexts and build experimental tools or proof-of-concepts to check whether new ideas work in practice.
  • Study on-chain ecosystems, protocols, and market trends to uncover opportunities where infrastructure and tooling can better support broader adoption.
  • Convert research findings into organized technical notes, concise insights, and practical recommendations for engineering and product teams.
  • Work with protocol, infrastructure, and product stakeholders so that experimental results influence roadmap planning and technical priorities.
  • Keep track of changes across the wider Web3 space, including decentralized applications, protocols, and emerging business models.

Requirements

  • 1 to 5 years of engineering experience, with a strong base in backend or systems development, ideally using Go, Rust, or Python.
  • Good grasp of blockchain fundamentals, including the transaction lifecycle, smart contracts, and EVM-compatible systems.
  • A naturally curious approach, with comfort working through ambiguity and learning by experimenting directly.
  • Ability to turn complex technical work into clear, brief, and useful insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Independent working style and the ability to stay productive in a fully remote, research-driven environment.
  • Preferred: familiarity with ecosystems such as Ethereum, Solana, or similar networks, plus exposure to DeFi, trading systems, payments, or AI-based Web3 products.
  • Preferred: experience with on-chain data analysis, smart contract development, quantitative analysis, or financial systems engineering.

Benefits

  • Remote-first setup with a high level of autonomy and flexible working arrangements.
  • Chance to contribute to advanced blockchain research that directly affects infrastructure and ecosystem direction.
  • Exposure to sophisticated Web3 engineering challenges alongside experienced protocol engineers.
  • Supportive learning environment centered on experimentation, innovation, and fast prototyping.
  • Competitive pay matched to experience and market standards.
  • Opportunity to help build impactful blockchain innovation work at an early stage.

Additional information

The hiring and evaluation process is managed by the partner company. Applications are reviewed through an AI-assisted matching process designed to assess candidates fairly against the role’s core requirements.
