Job description

Role overview

This contract position is for an experienced data governance professional who can help ensure that biotech and clinical research data used in advanced AI systems remains accurate, traceable, secure, and compliant. The work sits at the intersection of life sciences, regulated research, and AI-enabled scientific discovery.

The engagement is fully remote and designed with flexible scheduling. It is suited to professionals who understand the importance of governed data in high-stakes research and regulatory environments.

Organization: Alignerr
Engagement type: Hourly contract
Work mode: Remote
Expected commitment: 10 to 40 hours per week

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee governance for biotech research and clinical trial datasets so that they remain accurate, traceable, and fully auditable for both scientific use and regulatory filings.
  • Create, document, and apply data policies related to classification, access management, security requirements, and metadata practices across research, clinical, regulatory, and partner groups.
  • Provide controlled, secure access to sensitive data for analysis, innovation, and outside collaboration while safeguarding confidential and patient-related information.
  • Detect and fix data quality problems that could affect research reliability or compliance obligations.
  • Work with scientific, technology, compliance, and business stakeholders to align standards, workflows, and governance operating models.
  • Contribute to data annotation, evaluation, and quality workflows that support AI training pipelines.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience leading or deploying data governance programs in biotech, life sciences, clinical research, or similarly regulated settings. A strong understanding of privacy, security, compliance, and regulatory expectations for research and clinical data is important, including familiarity with frameworks such as HIPAA, GxP, and 21 CFR Part 11.

You should be comfortable working across functions and collaborating with scientists, IT architects, compliance professionals, and business leaders. The role calls for a careful, structured approach and the ability to independently drive governance work from planning through execution.

Preferred experience

  • Experience with data annotation, data quality methodologies, or evaluation of AI training data.
  • Exposure to clinical data standards such as CDISC, HL7, or FHIR.
  • Background in biobanks, genomics datasets, or electronic data capture systems.
  • Support experience for regulatory submissions to agencies such as the FDA or EMA, including governance documentation and artifacts.

Why this role stands out

  • Opportunity to work where life sciences and advanced AI meet, with governance directly supporting better science and smarter systems.
  • Remote and flexible work structure that lets you manage your own hours.
  • Independent contract work with meaningful, high-impact deliverables.
  • Collaboration with leading AI research teams and organizations in life sciences.
  • Potential for contract renewal or extension as work expands.
