About the Role and Organization

At University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, patient care is our foremost priority. Our Derbyshire Pathology department provides comprehensive pathology services to Royal Derby Hospital, Chesterfield Royal Hospital, and Queen's Hospital in Burton. Since October 2021, this department operates as part of a joint venture spanning Derby, Burton, and Chesterfield locations, offering a modern laboratory environment. This role may involve working across these sites.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist or Specialist Biomedical Scientist ready to embrace a new challenge and join a diverse, dynamic team. The laboratory operates 24/7, requiring participation in weekend rotations and an on-call schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform routine sample processing and conduct analytical clinical investigations in the Microbiology department adhering to defined timelines and quality standards.
• Oversee and guide the work of Band 5 Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs) within the assigned area.
• Engage actively in staff training and education initiatives.
• Participate fully in weekend and on-call responsibilities.
• Ensure compliance and familiarity with ISO 15189 standards, health and safety regulations, along with experience in audit and training methodologies.

Qualifications and Experience

• Must be HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist or Specialist Biomedical Scientist.
• Completion or near-completion of the IBMS Specialist Diploma is mandatory for Band 6 eligibility.
• Experience utilizing transformation methodologies to enhance service delivery is considered advantageous.
• The successful candidate will possess proactivity, enthusiasm, and a strong commitment to service excellence.
