About the Role and Organization

The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Partnership integrates pathology services for multiple NHS Trusts within the Integrated Care System footprint, aiming to deliver exceptional service, improve patient outcomes, enhance efficiency, and ensure workforce sustainability. The SYB Microbiology department offers comprehensive diagnostic and analytical testing for infections in various patient settings and extends specialist testing beyond the local network.

This part-time role primarily involves working on Thursdays and Fridays and requires delivering scientific and technical procedures under the guidance of qualified healthcare scientists in a busy laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out scientific and technical tasks under indirect supervision.
  • Manage pre-analytical sample processing, including sample receipt, preparation, and handling.
  • Safely store, retrieve, and dispose of biological materials following established protocols.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to queries from medical, nursing, and other clinical staff, including handling telephone inquiries.
  • Support and uphold high scientific and technical standards within the department.
  • Contribute to the education and training efforts by promoting a high standard of relevant professional development.
  • Comply with all Trust and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records related to performed activities and may handle entry or review of test results by others.
  • Potentially supervise, allocate tasks, and train less experienced colleagues within the designated work area.
