About the Role

This position involves fostering a supportive educational environment that promotes active student learning. The teacher will collaborate with fellow educators, school administrators, and curriculum specialists to develop and implement school initiatives and goals.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Must hold or be eligible for teaching certification issued by the Florida State Department of Education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with the prescribed curriculum and child development principles.
  • Strong communication abilities in both written and verbal forms.
  • Awareness of current educational research and best practices.
  • Basic proficiency with educational technology.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with administrators and instructional teams to design engaging, hands-on learning programs and activities.
  • Actively participate as part of the faculty and staff team.
  • Engage in cooperative planning, implementation, and evaluation of school improvement programs.
  • Manage the classroom environment and ensure proper maintenance and use of equipment.
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
  • Analyze and diagnose students' learning progress to deliver age-appropriate instruction.
  • Apply a range of instructional methods to meet individual student needs.
  • Integrate current technology and educational research into teaching practices.
  • Regularly evaluate and document student academic progress.
  • Maintain effective classroom management strategies that foster a positive atmosphere.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity toward students, parents, and the community, boosting students' confidence and self-esteem.
  • Maintain professional interactions and communication with parents through various channels such as meetings, calls, and written correspondence.
  • Encourage parental involvement in school activities, linking home and school environments.
  • Maintain necessary records including grade books, attendance, and progress reports.
  • Support the protection of school and student property.
  • Stay updated with relevant technology training supported by the district to ensure competent use in daily tasks.
  • Ensure timely and accurate management of job-related information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the school principal.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Job tasks require moderate physical effort, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and occasionally lifting or moving materials weighing 12 to 20 pounds.
  • Visual perception and discrimination skills are essential; oral communication abilities are also required.
  • Work is generally conducted indoors without significant exposure to adverse environmental factors such as extreme weather, toxic substances, or hazardous conditions.

Evaluation

Performance will be assessed based on the terms outlined in the negotiated contract between the School Board of Orange County, Florida, and the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association.
