Job description
Role overview
J D Wetherspoon is hiring bar staff for The White Swan in Solihull, West Midlands. This is an on-site full-time position paying £12.81 per hour. The role suits someone who enjoys fast-paced teamwork, customer interaction, and delivering food and drinks to a high standard.
Who the team is looking for
The company is seeking upbeat, motivated, and enthusiastic people who can bring a positive attitude to work. Prior experience is not required, as training is provided. A calm approach under pressure, willingness to learn, reliability, and a friendly team mindset are important.
This opportunity may suit someone wanting a long-term career or someone looking for extra shifts. The employer also emphasizes that the role can be a strong fit for people who are dependable, personable, and comfortable working with others.
What the role involves
You will work with the wider team to prepare and serve food and drinks accurately, while keeping service efficient and maintaining strong standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer care. The pubs operate from early morning until late at night, so shifts may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and late finishes.
- Take customer orders and prepare, dispense, and serve drinks to the required specification at the bar or through the customer app.
- Deliver food to guests, complete check-backs, and clear plates within the expected timeframe.
- Provide warm, friendly service by greeting customers, thanking them, and building rapport.
- Stay informed about promotions, events, and new products.
- Follow clean-as-you-go practices, including table clearing, wiping surfaces, and carrying out toilet checks.
- Support other areas as needed, including glass washing, fridge restocking, beer garden clearing, and floor duties.
Training and progression
Most team leaders and managers at Wetherspoon began in kitchen or bar roles. The company supports development through structured on-the-job training, apprenticeships, management academies, cross-training into other areas such as kitchen and hotel operations, and routes into team leader, kitchen shift leader, or pub manager roles.
Workplace culture
The business says it offers an inclusive environment where people from all backgrounds, preferences, and beliefs are welcome. The aim is to help employees feel comfortable being themselves while gaining the skills and knowledge needed to build a career.
Pay and benefits
- Competitive hourly pay.
- Free meal and drink while on shift.
- 20% discount on food, drinks, and hotel accommodation for you and up to three guests when off duty.
