Job description
Role overview
Hywel Dda University Health Board is looking to bring five Bank Porters into its Hotel Services team. The postholder will help deliver porterage support across wards and departments in a busy NHS environment and will be a key part of day-to-day service delivery.
Working pattern
This is a bank role that requires availability for both day and night shifts, with flexibility to adjust working times when the service needs it. Weekend work and bank holiday cover will also be part of the role.
Main duties
The work is varied and includes transporting patients between wards and departments, managing waste, dealing with security-related issues, moving furniture, and carrying out mortuary-related tasks.
Training
Full induction and training will be provided at the start of employment. This includes moving and handling, fire safety, restraint techniques, and training on the electronic helpdesk system.
About the organisation
Hywel Dda University Health Board provides NHS services across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and nearby counties. The organisation employs more than 13,000 staff and delivers services spanning primary care, community services, hospital care, mental health, and learning disabilities. It works alongside local authorities, public sector partners, private and third-sector organisations, and volunteers.
Services are delivered through four main hospitals, five community hospitals, two integrated care centres, a network of general practices and dental, pharmacy and ophthalmic services, as well as mental health and learning disability services.
Equality, language and data notice
The health board follows a bilingual policy and welcomes applications in Welsh. A Welsh application will be treated equally to one submitted in English.
Applicants are encouraged to submit a tailored application that clearly matches the person specification, as each role is reviewed against specific criteria. Generic applications or automated AI-assisted submissions may not provide enough detail and could be missed during shortlisting.
By applying, candidates consent to their application data being transferred to NHS workforce systems, including the NHS Electronic Staff Record, for recruitment and employment administration. This may also include checks of professional registration where relevant. The organisation states that data handling is carried out in line with current data protection law, with appropriate confidentiality, accuracy, security, and limited-use practices for personal data.
If appointed, the applicant authorises the health board to obtain previous NHS service information, including sickness records held electronically, through the Inter Authority Transfer process on ESR.
Right to work
Candidates who are not nationals of the UK or Republic of Ireland will generally need sponsorship for a Health and Care visa or Skilled Worker visa, unless they have permission to work through another route. Non-UK/RoI applicants are advised to assess their chances of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship before applying. Where eligible, the Health and Care visa has lower application costs and does not require payment of the annual Immigration Health Surcharge.
