Job description
Role overview
An opening has become available for an experienced Receptionist/Administrator to join the Older Adults Community Mental Health Team on a full-time basis. The team supports people with functional mental health conditions, including depression and psychotic illness, through assessment, specialist intervention, treatment and care planning. It works as part of a multidisciplinary hub model alongside other services.
What the role involves
This position is the first point of contact for patients, staff and visitors, so a courteous, welcoming and approachable manner is essential. The job combines reception cover with a broad set of administrative tasks, including appointment monitoring, booking and recording, handling a busy telephone line, receiving incoming mail and making sure it is actioned correctly, and processing clinical letters and related correspondence.
You will also support the wider hub team by working closely with colleagues and ensuring that administrative assistance is available to all members of the service. This includes dealing with liaison across the multidisciplinary team, other healthcare professionals, GPs, social workers, service users and relevant outside agencies.
What is needed
Applicants should be able to work independently, stay organised, prioritise a busy workload and remain effective under pressure. The role also requires the ability to handle enquiries promptly, accurately and with confidentiality.
About the trust
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust employs around 4,000 clinical and support staff and supports approximately 70,000 people each year. The trust provides mental healthcare services across Birmingham and Solihull, as well as specialist services nationally. It also delivers medical, nursing and psychology training and has a strong international reputation for research and innovation.
The local population is culturally varied and, in some areas, experiences significant deprivation, which increases demand for services and makes accessible care especially important. The organisation describes itself as compassionate, inclusive and committed, with a focus on helping people belong and make a meaningful difference to the community it serves.
