About Tata Electronics

Tata Electronics Private Limited, a greenfield initiative by the Tata Group, specializes in manufacturing precision components and is establishing India's first AI-powered semiconductor fabrication facility. This advanced semiconductor foundry will cater to applications such as power management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers, and high-performance computing logic, addressing markets like automotive, computing, data storage, wireless communications, and artificial intelligence. Tata Electronics operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd. and aligns with Tata Group’s mission to enhance community life globally through trust-based leadership.

Key Role Overview

The role involves leading the comprehensive material procurement and supply chain operations for a newly built semiconductor wafer fabrication plant. The incumbent ensures uninterrupted supply, quality assurance, compliance adherence, and cost optimization of both direct and indirect materials essential for qualification, ramp-up, and stable production phases. Accountability extends to developing a world-class, resilient, and compliant material sourcing ecosystem including chemicals, gases, consumables, wafers, reticles, spare parts, and cleanroom consumables while mitigating risks stemming from single-source dependencies, geopolitical factors, logistics, purity, and contamination.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to build and maintain supplier partnerships focusing on quality, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Negotiate and finalize long-term contracts securing critical materials supply.
  • Develop and implement a global supply chain strategy aligned with process requirements, production ramp plans, yield targets, and contamination controls.
  • Determine sourcing philosophies regarding single vs multi-sourcing and local vs global acquisition based on risk assessments.
  • Lead supplier identification, evaluation, qualification, and onboarding alongside coordination with Process Engineering, Quality, and EHS teams for material specifications, change controls, risk assessments, and establishing approved vendors and materials lists.
  • Manage contracting processes ensuring quality guarantees, supply continuity, confidentiality, and IP protection.
  • Assure readiness for startup and ramp phases by aligning material plans with tool installations, process releases, and yield learning with appropriate buffers and safety stock levels.
  • Oversee operational aspects including planning, sourcing, inventory management, and distribution across various locations, integrating these with MES/ERP/MRP systems and consumption data.
  • Establish risk mitigation approaches for supply continuity and implement cleanroom-compatible material handling procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations governing hazardous chemicals and gases, and coordinate necessary approvals with governing bodies.
  • Drive innovation by leading supply chain digitalization, predictive analytics, automation, and sustainability initiatives while ensuring end-to-end traceability and visibility across all material lots.
  • Build and lead a high-performing materials supply chain team encompassing category managers, planners, quality engineers, and logistics experts, fostering a learning culture, succession planning, and diversity.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • More than 15 years in supply chain management including at least seven years in senior leadership, preferably within semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing domains.
  • Demonstrated capability in global procurement, strategic supplier negotiations, risk management, and managing multi-entity international supply chains.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced supply chain technologies such as ERP systems, predictive analytics, and AI-enabled planning tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Supply Chain Management, or related field is required; a Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor materials, global trade regulations, compliance practices, and exceptional leadership and communication skills.
  • Proven record of delivering transformative initiatives with measurable business results.
