Position Overview
The Technician role entails diagnosing, repairing, and servicing customer vehicles strictly according to OEM guidelines, ensuring repairs are completed efficiently within labour time standards and meet first-time quality goals. This position is integral in boosting workshop productivity, enhancing customer satisfaction, and improving aftersales profitability. The Technician safeguards workshop flow, minimizes vehicle return rates, and upholds the dealership’s service reputation by adhering to operating procedures, quality benchmarks, and safety protocols.
Core Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduled maintenance, perform mechanical repairs, and carry out diagnostic assessments on vehicles following OEM standards and dealership protocols.
- Complete assigned repair orders promptly within allotted labour hours without compromising repair excellence or efficiency.
- Inspect vehicles during servicing to detect any additional repair needs and communicate these clearly to Service Advisors for customer approval.
- Ensure all maintenance and repair work strictly conforms to manufacturer procedures and technical requirements.
- Utilize OEM diagnostic equipment, scanning technologies, and troubleshooting methodologies to precisely identify the root causes of vehicle issues.
- Perform road tests and final quality checks before vehicle handover to ensure repairs have met effectiveness standards.
- Accurately document technical information through check sheets, inspection records, and job logs for every repair and service operation.
- Support reduction of repeat repairs and customer returns by maintaining a first-time-right repair execution.
- Operate specialized service tools, lifting gear, and workshop machinery correctly and safely at all times.
- Promptly report any damaged tools, calibration needs, or equipment malfunctions to the Workshop Supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment following 5S workplace organization and OEM housekeeping mandates.
- Adhere strictly to personal protective equipment use, lifting protocols, chemical handling guidelines, and workplace health and safety standards.
- Complete all mandatory OEM training programs and internal certifications to sustain and advance technical skills.
- Stay current with manufacturer Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), recall notifications, software patches, and updated repair processes, particularly for newer models.
- Participate actively in continuous improvement efforts by sharing insights and experiences gained from complex repairs with peers and supervisors.
- Expand expertise in emerging automotive technologies including hybrid, electric vehicles (EV), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and connected vehicle systems as applicable.
Qualifications and Experience
- Holder of an Automotive Diploma, Vocational Certificate, or equivalent technical qualification.
- Possession of OEM technical certifications is especially preferred.
- At least 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience within a franchised automotive dealership's workshop environment.
Technical Expertise
- Robust mechanical understanding of vehicle components such as engines, transmissions, suspensions, steering, braking, and electrical systems.
- Competence in using OEM diagnostic platforms, scan tools, and electronic troubleshooting aids.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and repair documentation.
- Basic computer skills for usage of Dealer Management System (DMS), job booking updates, and digital inspections.
- Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle systems is a valuable asset.
