Position summary
The Automotive Polisher is responsible for restoring and improving the final appearance of vehicles after repair or detailing work. This role centers on polishing and buffing painted surfaces to produce a smooth, high-gloss result that meets both company expectations and manufacturer standards.
Key duties
The role includes working on repaired body panels and repainted surfaces, removing visible imperfections, and preparing vehicles for delivery. You will also help maintain the condition of polishing equipment and ensure that all materials are handled safely and correctly.
Responsibilities
- Refinish painted vehicle surfaces using rotary or dual-action polishing tools to remove swirl marks, light overspray, dust nibs, and other minor flaws.
- Use compounds, waxes, and sealants to create a smooth, glossy surface and improve the vehicle’s overall presentation before handover.
- Examine painted areas for scratches, blemishes, and uneven texture, then carry out minor corrections or escalate larger issues to the painter or supervisor.
- Use polishing machines safely and keep tools in good working order by cleaning them regularly and replacing pads and consumables when needed.
- Select the correct compounds and pads according to surface condition, and store all polishing materials in line with safety requirements.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience of 2 to 4 years working as an automotive polisher in a workshop or body shop.
- Practical knowledge of polishing compounds, paint finishes, and vehicle detailing methods.
- Good understanding of clear coat systems and paint correction techniques.
- Ability to spot surface defects and choose the right polishing approach to resolve them.
- A careful, safety-aware, efficient, and team-focused working style.
- Strong technical skill in operating polishing machines, pads, and abrasives.
