Job description

About the Role

Deutsche Bahn is a major European rail transport provider, moving millions of people and vast freight daily. We're committed to improvement, and to do so we're seeking driven individuals to join our workforce. With more than 5,000 apprentices hired yearly across 50 fields, we are dedicated to developing talent and offering ample career prospects after qualification. If you prefer working outdoors rather than at a desk and are fascinated by trains and technology, this track construction apprenticeship may be ideal for you!

Program Details

Beginning August 3, 2026, you'll start a three-year apprenticeship as a Gleisbauer:in at DB InfraGO AG in Koblenz. During the first year, practical training alternates between Frankfurt am Main and Ludwigshafen, with vocational school based in Ludwigshafen; from the second year on, both vocational training and workshops will take place in Ludwigshafen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside your team outdoors at rail construction sites maintaining and upgrading tracks.
  • Install new rails and switches, thoroughly inspect for damage, and replace faulty components.
  • Utilize modern equipment to refurbish the gravel beds under the tracks.
  • Measure and verify fit and structure to guarantee smooth and safe train operations.
  • You'll become a valuable team member from day one, ensuring the reliability of train service every day.

Candidate Profile

  • You are about to complete or have already finished school with a diploma recognized in Germany.
  • You speak German at a minimum B2 level.
  • You prefer active, outdoor work over office settings.
  • You bring motivation, reliability, and enjoy hands-on teamwork.
  • You have no objection to variable worksites, unusual schedules, or night shifts.

Selection Process

Applicants will participate in an aptitude assessment as part of the recruitment process. More information on preparation and procedure is available on our career site.

Diversity and Inclusion

We are committed to providing equal opportunities to all candidates and to fostering diversity in our teams. We welcome applications from anyone regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic background, religion, worldview, disability, age, employment history, or sexual identity. Candidates with disabilities or equivalent status will be given preference if equally qualified.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Receive a mobile device for learning and personal use during your apprenticeship.
  • Get 16 annual free train journeys within Germany and further travel discounts for yourself, family, and friends, plus a DB job ticket for commuting.
  • If relocating and facing a daily commute over 2.5 hours, you may be eligible for a housing allowance up to €400 per month to help you settle in your new city.
