Role overview

The Athletics Equipment Manager oversees the department’s uniforms and athletic equipment under general supervision. This position keeps inventory organized, supports game-day readiness, and helps ensure all athletic gear is maintained and distributed efficiently for team use.

Key responsibilities

  • Support coaches with the purchase of athletic uniforms and equipment.
  • Build, track, reconcile, and maintain inventory records for uniforms and all athletic equipment used by the department.
  • Manage the issue and collection of uniforms and equipment for practices and competitions.
  • Prepare equipment and coordinate setup for game days.
  • Keep uniforms, apparel, and related gear clean, usable, and in proper condition.
  • Supervise and coordinate athletic equipment staff and/or student workers handling activities such as laundry and equipment repairs.
  • Move team equipment to off-site locations as required using university vehicles.
  • Recruit, train, and schedule Equipment Room Support Staff.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.

Education and experience

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in sports administration, sports management, or a closely related discipline is required. The role also calls for at least three years of experience in an athletic department or in equipment management.

Skills and abilities

  • Experience working in athletic equipment management or a closely related function.
  • Ability to obtain AEMA certification after hiring, or already certified.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Solid organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed.
  • Ability to drive either a personal or university vehicle for university business.
  • Commitment to complying with NCAA regulations and institutional policies.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Physical and work conditions

This is a full-time, exempt, 11-month position based in Buffalo, NY. Remote work is not available. The job requires the ability to lift at least 50 lbs and work in a range of outdoor conditions, including hot, dry, wet, and cold environments.

Compensation

Salary is estimated at $43,000 to $45,000 per year. This range reflects a good-faith estimate based on the responsibilities of the role and the selected candidate’s experience, education, and training.
