Overview

We are inviting applications for an Associate Transport Planner to join our specialized team based in Ireland at locations including Galway, Dublin, Cork, and Kilkenny. This role focuses on developing advanced, evidence-based transport planning solutions and contributing to significant infrastructure projects across Ireland and the UK.

Role Purpose

The Associate Transport Planner will lead technically complex tasks, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and engage closely with clients to deliver high-quality transport planning and appraisal services. Responsibilities include mentoring junior staff, refining methods, and helping integrate digital and AI innovations into project workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the transport planning components of diverse, multi-tiered projects.
  • Manage client relationships to ensure solutions align with their needs and project budgets and timelines.
  • Support and enhance junior colleagues' professional growth through coaching and quality reviews.
  • Contribute to business development and innovation efforts within the transport planning domain.
  • Develop recognized expertise to influence company strategies and service offerings over time.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of transport planning principles within UK and Irish frameworks.
  • Experience applying UK Treasury Green Book, Irish TAF guidance, and appraisal tools like TAG, PAG, TUBA, and COBALT.
  • Hands-on proficiency in rail scheme development and multi-modal transport modeling using platforms such as CUBE, SATURN, VISUM, VISSIM, Junctions, or LinSig.
  • Ability to develop bespoke methodologies and conduct detailed analysis and report writing.
  • An understanding of industry best practices and emerging trends, including digital and AI applications.

Project and Commercial Skills

  • Capability to scope, plan, and deliver complex technical projects while managing budgets and schedules efficiently.
  • Experience leading major public-sector transport projects and handling multiple workstreams.
  • Knowledge of commercial considerations and project cost efficiency.

Client Management

  • Effective communication skills to build trust and maintain strong client partnerships.
  • Capability to produce high-quality outputs that meet client expectations.
  • Present expertise confidently in stakeholder meetings and contribute to decision-making.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of Level 8 degree in Civil Engineering, Planning, Physics, Economics, Mathematics, Geography, or related fields.
  • Proven track record of managing significant transport planning projects.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Desirable qualifications include a Level 9 Master's degree in Transport Planning or related disciplines, chartered professional membership, and project management certification (e.g., APMP).
  • Experience working on large-scale public-sector infrastructure schemes is advantageous.

Working Conditions

The position is office-based in Ireland with expected travel to client sites, predominantly in Dublin, and collaboration across offices, including Cork. Reasonable workplace adjustments can be provided to support candidate needs according to the Equality Act 2010.
