Role Overview

We are launching a new position in our Short Term Portfolio Management Academy in Berlin starting September 1. This role offers immersive training and practical exposure to managing renewable energy and gas portfolios, alongside systematic short-term power trading in an international context—ideal for individuals aiming for a career in commodity trading.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete an intensive Short Term Portfolio Management training program focused on European power and gas markets.
• Manage European and Japanese renewables balancing risk by optimizing wind and solar output deviations and maximizing the flexibility of renewable assets using both discretionary trading and automated systems.
• Maintain and monitor the operational health of automated trading systems and contribute innovative trading strategies.
• Take on responsibilities in the European natural gas portfolio, including physical asset management (storage, cross-border capacities, supply, demand), scheduling, capacity booking, and short-term asset optionality trading.
• Operate within a shift-based rotation that includes weekends, nights, and bank holidays.
• Engage in project work during off-shift periods focused on analytical, quantitative, operational, or commercial areas aligned with personal skills and interests.

Candidate Profile

• Demonstrates commercial acumen and operational discipline with a strong ambition to develop a career in commodity portfolio management and trading.
• Fluent English communication skills, both verbal and written, essential for training and global collaboration.
• Proficient in Python programming; coding skills will be assessed during the interview.
• Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or another quantitative discipline.
• Strong analytical and numerical aptitude with meticulous attention to detail.
• Solid understanding of European power and/or gas markets.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within diverse teams.
• Proactive problem-solving attitude with decisiveness and a positive, team-focused mindset.
• Thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced trading environment.
