Job Objective

The role oversees quality assurance for incoming materials inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) specifically for wind turbine blade components. The incumbent ensures all blade parts meet design and industry standards by managing material validations, conducting and supervising NDT techniques, addressing non-conformities, and maintaining detailed quality documentation. Additionally, this position leads QA personnel, develops inspection protocols, and collaborates across departments to elevate blade manufacturing quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise quality assurance procedures related to incoming inspections and NDT of blade elements, ensuring strict adherence to specifications.
  • Create and enforce inspection methods incorporating advanced NDT technologies such as ultrasonic and thermographic testing for defect detection.
  • Oversee thorough evaluation of incoming materials like core substrates, adhesives, and structural parts verifying their alignment with design criteria.
  • Confirm testing for critical properties — including density measurements, fiber alignment verification, and curing quality assessments before blade manufacturing proceeds.
  • Coordinate and execute NDT activities aimed at detecting internal blade defects such as delaminations, voids, and cracks.
  • Ensure calibration and usage of NDT tools comply with standards like ISO 9712 for personnel qualifications.
  • Manage identification of non-conformances during inspections and work with production to initiate corrective measures using advanced defect analysis techniques like phased array ultrasonic testing.
  • Maintain compliance with inspection standards including ISO 9001 and IEC 61400-5, updating protocols to integrate latest NDT and manufacturing advancements.
  • Keep detailed records of all inspection results, defect reports, and corrective actions for audit readiness and external review.
  • Lead and mentor QA engineers and inspectors in inspection activities while conducting technical training on NDT and material evaluation standards.
  • Engage collaboratively with suppliers, production teams, design engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvements.

Key Internal Stakeholders

  • Plant Head (QA) - Blade
  • QA Engineers and Inspectors for Incoming and NDT
  • Blade Production and Process Engineering Teams
  • Blade Techno-commercial, Warehouse, Planning, and HSE Departments

Key External Stakeholders

  • Suppliers of blade components
  • External NDT service providers
  • Calibration laboratories
  • Certification agencies

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields.
  • At least 12 years’ experience in quality assurance focused on incoming material inspections and non-destructive testing within blade or composite manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong expertise in NDT techniques, material validation, and compliance with applicable industry standards.
